No. 1 seeded Grizzlies boys’ tennis team went on to defeat seventh-seeded Liberty Madera 5-4 for the CIF Central Section Division V section title — becoming the first athletic team in Granite’s 15-year history to win a Valley championship.

Top-seeded Buchanan won 4 of 5 singles matches, including a 6-2, 6-3 victory by Sravya Gudipudi over Chelsey Ruiz
No. 1, to defeat No. 4 Bullard 7-2 in the section D-I semifinals. Brooke Sanford, Mary Kate Shellworth, Sienna Swain and Christina Monreal also won in singles for the Bears (20-4) , who will host No. 2 Stockdale next Wednesday in a rematch of the 2012 D-I title won 6-3 by Buchanan.
Bullard's Claire Malley, a day after qualifying for the Southern California Championship in golf, swept singles and doubles matches against the Bears.
